Dr. Vergés receives the honorary degree ‘Doctor honoris causa’.

honoris causa

The Claustro Doctoral Honoris Causa A.C., awarded honorary degrees to a dozen distinguished individuals at a dinner held in the halls of the Hotel Ritz in Barcelona, among whom was our president, the Dr. Josep Vergés, for the medical and research work he has carried out throughout his life. He received the award on behalf of thousands of patients represented by OAFI and AECOSAR.

The ceremony of investiture and awarding of an Honorary Doctorate is a tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages, from the 5th to the 15th century, when the person who taught, that is, the Docto, was considered to be a doctor, and for this reason was conferred the highest academic rank.

These distinctions are awarded by a university or cloister to eminent people, outstanding in professional, social, cultural and other fields that involve a brilliant and commendable deed carried out by people with a singular trajectory.

The symbolism of the ‘honorary doctorate’.

This ceremony is steeped in symbolism, highlighting the importance of this appointment, which gives the doctoral candidate the responsibility and pride of being part of the institution as a member of its doctoral faculty. Through this recognition, the university aims to incorporate eminent personalities into its doctoral staff, thus adding their efforts to achieve the institution’s objectives.

The purpose of awarding this distinction is to unite the efforts of these outstanding personalities to the achievement of the institution’s objectives, reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and the pursuit of knowledge.
