The 3rd International Congress of Patients with Osteoarthritis organized by OAFI will take place in Barcelona on October 3, 4 and 5 in the framework of the International Day of Rheumatic Diseases (October 12).
OAFI organizes together with the most important rheumatological associations at the international level the III International Congress of Patients with Osteoarthritis in the Axa auditorium of Barcelona, with the objective of promoting scientific research in the field of osteoarthritis to improve their quality of life. In this edition, OAFI will bring together more than 150 million patients represented by their national associations
Worldwide, more than 300 million people suffer from osteoarthritis (7 million in Spain), a figure that has doubled in the last 30 years. The number of cases is expected to continue increasing.
All the activities of the Congress will be free for patients, with limited capacity.
Women and Osteoarthritis
Since 23.5% of women over 15 years old suffer from osteoarthritis, this year’s congress will focus especially on women and on the symptoms, prevention and treatment of this disease.
First level speakers
Important developments will be presented at the level of prevention and treatment of great impact at national and international level.
The Congress will have speakers of great prestige from diverse fields such as research, medicine, sports, food or economics, among which are: Santiago Niño Becerra, Professor of Economic Structure at Ramon Llull University, Ann Palmer, President and CEO of the Arthritis Foundation, Nathalie Bere, Patient Engagement at the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Dr. Sol Ruiz, Head of Division of Biological Products, Advanced Therapies and Biotechnology of Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products, and Dr. Josep Vergés, President and CEO of the OAFI Foundation, among other national and international speakers.
Stands of specialized companies
Beyond the debates and presentations, the congress will also have an area of stands of companies specialized in products and services for the improvement of the quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis.
Outdoor activities
On October 5, an outdoor day will be organized within the congress in the gardens of the Illa Diagonal Barcelona to enjoy a family day practicing activities such as yoga, taichi or dance therapy to prevent and improve the health of joints. All the activities of the congress will be freely accessible and for all audiences.
Institutional collaboration
The Congress has the collaboration of the Ministry of Health, Consumption and Social Welfare, the Department of Health of the Generalitat de Catalunya and the City Council of Barcelona.
